The Convention
What is AMSA National Convention?
AMSA National Convention is the largest student-run conference in the world. Since 1960, it has brought together medical students from across Australia and New Zealand for five days of academics, competition, and connection that have defined careers and forged lifelong friendships.
What started as a gathering of 60 students has grown to over 800 delegates each year — representing every medical school in Australia and New Zealand. Convention embodies the core values of AMSA: excellence in medical education, advocacy, and the belief that the best doctors are the most connected ones.
Each year, convention rotates to a new city, hosted by a local organising committee of medical students who dedicate months to creating something unforgettable. In 2027, that city is Brisbane.
The Host City
Why Brisbane?
Queensland's capital is Australia's fastest-growing city — a sun-drenched river city with world-class infrastructure, a thriving medical and biomedical research precinct, and an energy that's impossible to match.
With the 2032 Brisbane Olympics on the horizon, the city has transformed. South Bank — our convention heartland — is home to Brisbane's best restaurants, galleries, nightlife and the famous Streets Beach, all within walking distance of BCEC.
The Herston Health Precinct — Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital, QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, and UQ's medical facilities — makes Brisbane one of the Southern Hemisphere's most significant biomedical hubs.
